Position Overview
San Diego Made is seeking a financially experienced and community-minded volunteer to serve as our Treasurer / Director of Finance. This person will help oversee the organization’s financial health, strengthen internal financial systems, and provide clear reporting to organizational leadership and the Board of Directors.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with budgets, financial statements, bookkeeping systems, and nonprofit financial practices. This role is a strong fit for someone who wants to use their financial expertise to support artists, small businesses, and community-based programming.
Key Responsibilities
Review monthly financial statements, including income and expense reports, balance sheets, and cash flow
Help develop and monitor annual organizational and program budgets
Provide financial updates and recommendations to the Board of Directors and leadership team
Monitor the organization’s financial position, cash flow, reserves, and upcoming obligations
Support accurate financial tracking across grants, programs, events, sponsorships, and facility operations
Work with staff, bookkeepers, accountants, and tax professionals as needed
Help prepare financial information for grant applications, reports, audits, tax filings, and funder requests
Review internal financial procedures and recommend improvements
Help ensure appropriate financial controls, documentation, and approval processes are in place
Assist with long-term financial planning and sustainability
Participate in relevant board, finance committee, or leadership meetings
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, budgeting, or financial operations
Ability to read and clearly explain financial statements
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Experience with QuickBooks, spreadsheets, or similar financial tools
Ability to communicate financial information to people without accounting backgrounds
Sound judgment, discretion, and respect for confidential information
Interest in nonprofit organizations, the arts, creative entrepreneurship, or community development
Experience with nonprofit accounting, grant-funded programs, audits, or nonprofit tax reporting is helpful but not required.
Commitment and Compensation
This is an unpaid volunteer leadership position. The anticipated time commitment is approximately 5 to 8 hours per month, depending on the organization’s reporting calendar and current projects. Most work can be completed remotely, with regular communication and periodic meetings with the leadership team and Board of Directors.

Internship Overview
San Diego Made is seeking a creative and community-minded Social Media and Content Creation Intern to support our digital communications and help share the stories of San Diego’s creative community.
The intern will gain hands-on experience creating content for a nonprofit arts organization while learning about social media strategy, event promotion, digital storytelling, content planning, and community engagement.
Working closely with the San Diego Made team, the intern will help develop content featuring local artists, makers, creative businesses, programs, events, and community partners. This internship is ideal for a student, recent graduate, emerging creative, or career changer interested in building a portfolio and gaining real-world marketing and communications experience.
Learning Opportunities
During the internship, the intern will have opportunities to:
Build a portfolio of published social media and marketing content
Learn how to develop and maintain a nonprofit content calendar
Gain experience promoting events, programs, fundraising campaigns, and community opportunities
Develop skills in social media writing, photography, video, graphic design, and short-form content
Learn how to adapt content for different digital platforms and audiences
Gain experience using social media scheduling and analytics tools
Receive feedback and mentorship from members of the San Diego Made team
Learn about nonprofit communications, arts programming, event production, and community engagement
Connect with artists, makers, small-business owners, and creative professionals throughout San Diego
Internship Responsibilities
Assist with creating social media posts, captions, stories, reels, and short-form videos
Help maintain a consistent social media and content schedule
Create content promoting events, programs, exhibitions, workshops, vendor opportunities, and organizational updates
Develop artist, maker, volunteer, partner, and small-business features
Assist with photography and video capture at select events and programs
Create simple graphics and promotional materials using Canva or similar tools
Repurpose existing content for social media, newsletters, and web platforms
Help schedule approved content using social media management tools
Research relevant trends, audio, hashtags, and creative content ideas
Organize photos, videos, graphics, captions, and other digital assets
Assist with live event coverage and behind-the-scenes content
Review basic social media analytics and help identify successful content
Collaborate with staff to gather accurate program and event information
Preferred Qualifications
Interest in social media, marketing, communications, photography, video, graphic design, or digital storytelling
Strong writing and communication skills
Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or other social media platforms
Some experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar tools
Basic photography or video-editing skills
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
Ability to manage assignments, communicate clearly, and meet agreed-upon deadlines
Interest in art, design, creative entrepreneurship, nonprofit work, events, or community development
Previous professional experience is not required. We are looking for someone who is curious, dependable, creative, and excited to grow their skills.
Schedule and Supervision
This is an unpaid internship requiring approximately 8 to 10 hours per week. The schedule is flexible and can be coordinated around school, work, and other commitments.
Most responsibilities can be completed remotely. Some availability in San Diego is preferred for occasional events, photography, video capture, and live social media coverage.
The intern will receive regular guidance, feedback, and check-ins from the San Diego Made team. Internship responsibilities can also be adjusted to support the intern’s academic requirements, professional goals, and areas of interest.
