Real Artists Don't Starve Workshop with Kendrick Dial

Real Artists Don’t Starve is a reflective, skills-based workshop that challenges the “starving artist” myth and invites creatives to explore more sustainable, intentional, and fulfilling creative lives.

Hosted by Kendrick Dial, a multidisciplinary artist, facilitator, and longtime practitioner working across arts & culture, social justice, mental health, civic engagement, and social service spaces, this workshop draws from Kendrick’s years of experience navigating creative practice alongside professional and personal growth. Still actively creating and performing, Kendrick brings a grounded, artist-centered perspective shaped by working closely with individuals and organizations in community-based settings.

Participants will explore the intersection of their creative, professional, and personal journeys, gaining practical tools and mindset shifts that support clarity, communication, and long-term sustainability. The workshop emphasizes holistic approaches to creative work, including navigating conflict, strengthening self-understanding, and engaging in culturally responsive ways.

The workshop will take place on Friday, February 28 and Friday, March 21, from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM at the San Diego Made Factory in Logan Heights, 2031 Commercial St., SD CA 92113.

The cost to attend is $20, with two-for-one registration available, and no one will be turned away due to inability to pay.

This workshop is well-suited for artists, creatives, and arts workers seeking space to reflect, recalibrate, and build healthier relationships with their work and creative paths.
